CGI Cutaway Animation for a High-Performance Drill Bit
Rawlplug Ltd, a global manufacturer of fixing solutions and tools, approached RSL Designs to create a CGI cutaway animation for the Rawl R-SDSR Rebardrill bit. The animation needed to sit alongside live-action footage, highlighting the drill bit’s internal design and performance features in a way that filming alone could not achieve.
Why Photorealistic CGI Was the Only Viable Solution
The Rawl R-SDSR Rebardrill features internal geometries and cutting elements that are impossible to show clearly using traditional filming methods. A photorealistic CGI cutaway allowed us to reveal these internal components while maintaining accurate scale, materials, and movement.
CGI also ensured the animation aligned perfectly with the live-action footage, matching lighting, timing, and perspective. This approach gave Rawlplug a precise and controlled way to demonstrate how the drill bit performs under load, without compromising clarity or realism.
The Outcome
The finished CGI cutaway animation gave Rawlplug a clear and effective way to communicate the performance advantages of the Rebardrill bit.
It complements live-action footage while providing insight that would otherwise be hidden. The animation is suitable for marketing, presentations, and technical demonstrations.
