CGI and videography - working in tandem for a product visualisation video

We were approached by SolidTek™ (a leading British manufacturer of solid paste water treatment chemicals) to join forces with videographers Big Sky Creative, who want to product a product video for their STL1000 dissolver unit.

R&D was the starting point for this shot – we were given access to their library of videos and imagery, along with the CAD files for the actual STL1000 unit.

We converted the CAD into separate objects so we could texture each part individually and animate according to the inner workings of the product.

This shot required complex CGI water and particle simulations to recreate the fertiliser crumbling into the water system.

The product had two key elements – a bottle distribution system and a solid disc system. Each had its own unique characteristics, and these needed to be clearly represented in the video.

We used Otoy’s render network to process all the frames for the animated sections, then passed them over to Big Sky Creative to incorporate into the final video (which can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/JNZttGyrGM0?si=1-fs1fRrvDmlKLNb).

This is a great example of how videography and CGI can be combined to enhance a product’s story – to show more, explain more, and ultimately sell more.
