STL1000 Dissolver Unit – Industrial System Explained with CGI
CGI Product Animation for an Industrial Water Treatment System
We collaborated with SolidTek™, a leading British manufacturer of solid paste water treatment chemicals, to create a CGI animation for their STL1000 dissolver unit. By working alongside videographers Big Sky Creative, we were able to combine high-end CGI with live-action footage, resulting in a clear and visually engaging explanation of the product’s operation.
Research and Technical Preparation
Our process began with thorough R&D. We were provided access to SolidTek’s library of existing footage, imagery, and CAD files for the STL1000. Using this data, we converted the CAD model into separate objects, allowing each component to be individually textured and animated according to its real-world function.
Complex CGI Simulations for Realistic Operation
The STL1000 includes two key elements: a bottle distribution system and a solid disc system. Each required unique animation to accurately show how the product functions. We also implemented advanced CGI water and particle simulations to visualise the solid paste dissolving into the water system, recreating the fertiliser’s behaviour in a realistic and instructive way.
Rendering and Collaboration
All animated frames were processed using Otoy’s render network, ensuring high-quality output for every sequence. These were then handed over to Big Sky Creative to integrate with the final video, which can be viewed here: STL1000 Final Video. The combination of CGI and videography enabled the product’s story to be told more completely and clearly.
Outcome and Value
This project demonstrates how CGI and videography can work together to enhance a product’s story. By visualising complex internal processes, the animation allows engineers, technical stakeholders, and potential customers to understand the product fully, making it easier to explain, demonstrate, and ultimately sell the STL1000.
